How Important Are Minerals to Us? Are We Getting What We Need?
We often hear that certain foods contain a certain amounts of vitamins and minerals. Minerals are important basic building blocks for proper nutrition and health. Without minerals, other nutrients are unable to function properly. Amino acids and enzymes don't function as they should, resulting in the other nutrients not breaking down enough to be properly absorbed - The end result: serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Minerals create a healthy environment in which the body, using vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and fats, can grow, function and heal it's self. They are quite different from vitamins in their structure and the work they do, but the two enjoy an excellent working relationship.
A major concern is that throughout the last several centuries, and especially over the course of the last 50 years, is that the mineral content of our food supply has been severely altered and diminished. Once man began to constantly till the soil, the continuous farming coupled with severe weather erosion began taking its toll, gradually causing the soils to become deficient in essential minerals.
Modern day (industrialized) agricultural practices continue to deplete the soil mineral content in many regions of the world. Unfortunately, farmers do not generally replace the depleted minerals. This has resulted in a very low trace mineral content in the vegetables and fruits we eat. How do we remedy this deficiency? Supplementation is the logical option.
Perhaps the best summary of this predicament was provided by Dr. William A. Albrecht, Chairman of the Department of Soils at the University of Missouri. Dr. Albrecht wrote:
"A declining soil fertility, due to a lack of organic material, major elements, and trace minerals, is responsible for poor crops and in turn for pathological conditions in animals fed deficient foods from such soils, and that mankind is no exception."
Calling all Minerals!
Minerals are broken into two classes, macro minerals, and micro (trace) minerals. Macro minerals include calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and phosphorus. Typically, macro minerals are needed in the tissues in larger amounts then trace minerals. Micro (trace) minerals include boron, chromium, copper, germanium, iodine, iron, vanadium, and zinc.
Liquid Minerals
Liquid minerals in suspension are your best bet when it comes to mineral supplementation. The minerals are already dissolved in solution, so the ease in which the body can absorb the solubilized nutrients is improved. Not only do liquid supplements appeal to a wide range of consumers, in addition they also provide an alternative to "hard to swallow" tablets or capsules.
Maximum Living's MineralRich® is a liquid mineral supplement rich with essential macro and trace minerals derived from purified soils and sources, dissolved in pure water, and created in a liquid suspension.
