FAQs

Borage is a plant often used in gardens as a border plant. Some unsaturated fats are required in the diet. These fats are essential for many reasons and are known as “Essential Fatty Acids” or EFAs. Some EFAs are identified as Omega 3 and some are Omega 6. Each is made up of different types of fats or acids, such as, linoleic, gamma-linolenic, alpha-linolenic or oleic acids. Borage oil is part of the Omega 6 group. A deficiency of Omega 6 may result in skin conditions such as eczema, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), inflammation, hypertension, autoimmune disorders and hyperactivity in children. Because oils such as EFAs need to be converted into a substance called prostaglandins that regulate many metabolic functions in the body, and many people have problems with this conversion due to conditions such as allergies, high cholesterol, diabetes, chemical exposure or specific nutritional deficiencies, these metabolic blockages may be bypassed by taking supplements of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid). Borage oil has the highest concentration of EFA gamma-linolenic acid, higher than evening primrose oil, black current, walnut oil or other oils. Maximum Living’s® Borage Oil also contains two other EFA’sin addition to the gamma-linolenic acid. They are linoleic acid and oleic acid.
